I’ve been given a project at work where I have to review responses to requests for data from various subcontractors (that I’ve never met) and then contact those subcontractors if additional information is needed. I have sent out seven requests by email in the past week and have heard the following in response:

“I have just returned from a project in Nigeria, where I apparently picked up some tropical malady.”

“Please feel free to call me anytime after 1200hrs (my best buddy has a bad limp and I’ve got to take him to the doctors … 200lb English Mastiff named Angus).”

“I tried to call you today at the number you listed below … and I think I woke the individual up!”

[After being asked to try calling me again:] “Nope … got a concerned young lady at the other end who I had to assure that I was not a stalker!!”

“I am currently in South Dakota on a pheasant hunt and return to the eastern shore on Monday evening.”

Another subcontractor called me and was deeply concerned that, because my main phone number was not working, the information he’d emailed me was probably intercepted in some sort of sordid scam.

People are so weird.
