The Race: Chris Thater Memorial Circuit Race
The Course: 36 laps of a just under 1-mile loop with a small uphill/downhill section
The Field: Pro Women
The Finish: Jen on the podium in 3rd, me in the Transitions Out-of-Sight jersey for the longest breakaway

I wrote the Team Colavita press release for this race and that took a few minutes of real hard work and I can’t let that effort go to waste, so instead of writing another report on the same event, I’m going to reuse that one. Recycling! So good for the Earth. And good for the time I’d rather dedicate to playing Dots.

“Team Colavita’s sprinter Jennifer Purcell landed on the podium in 3rd place after a solid display of teamwork at the NCC Chris Thater Memorial Race in Binghamton, NY this past Saturday, August 24th. Throughout the 30-mile, 36-lap race, teammates Mary Zider, Jamie Dinkins Bookwalter, and Lindsay Bayer covered and initiated attacks, picking up several primes in the process. One counterattack launched Lindsay off the front of the field for over five laps in a move that seemed promising, but was ultimately brought back. With one lap left in the race, the Colavita riders gathered at the front and Jamie initiated a strong leadout for Jen, who successfully sprinted to a podium 3rd place finish. Lindsay earned the Transitions Out-of-Sight jersey for her time spent in a breakaway.

Next up, the team heads to Boston, MA for the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup Criterium, an NCC race and the final event in the Team Colavita calendar.”

In the hurt locker off the front. If you look hard, you can see that I’m bleeding from my eyeballs.

I didn’t even know there was a jersey up for grabs; it was an honor to get on the podium. And also, free shirt!

  1. Chad spent all of the time you were off the front – and then some – discussing your head tilt. He told everybody nine or thirty some odd times that he could tell it meant you were working hard. It was the definitive race commentary high point.

Nice job: I had to stop sitting on the couch and move to the coffee table to properly shout at the television when your move looked like it was going to stick. Following the racing has been extremely rewarding this year. Congratulations on winding down your first year as a professional.
